Nighttime Recap:
Take some time before you go to sleep to reflect on your day, repent of your wrongdoings, and revise your behavior to align with God’s pathway for your life.
Reflect:
Jot down the highlights of your day, the things you did well, and the things that you know need some work.
Repent:
Confess your sin(s) to God, ask for forgiveness, and ask Him to help you change your ways so that you can respond with godly manners, rather than react according to your emotions.
Revise:
Write down at least one or two behavioral changes you need to make to look more like Christ and less like yourself. Remember, our Father wants us to be who He created us to be, not who our family, friends, or the world tells us we should be.
Let’s make this nightly recap activity a part of your evening routine. The more you do this exercise, the more aware you will become of what triggers your emotions. What triggers your emotions has unauthorized power and control over you—leading you to act out of character. The goal is to understand what causes your emotional flare-ups, so that you can demonstrate self-control in those areas and pause to allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and speak on your behalf rather than your flesh. And know this: there’s no shame in talking to God about your weaknesses and your struggles because His power is on full display when we are weak. His MIGHT doesn’t change based on our fragility because He is the Great I Am. Your Father is aware of all your hidden secrets, so don’t be afraid to talk to Him about those uncomfortable, painful, traumatic, and unhealed areas of your life. God can make what causes you to lash out and sin, kneel and pray for deliverance instead—shifting your focus from sinful temptations to sanctified communion with Him. And your future self will thank you later.
