Keep Your Head In The Clouds

The phrase ‘head in the clouds’ reminds us of the scripture in Colossians 3:2, where God tells us to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. And we love how The Passion Translation (TPT) of that scripture commands us to fill our thoughts with heavenly realities, not the distractions of the natural realm. I suppose you could say that we view this phrase as a more optimistic approach to living life, as opposed to the somewhat negative connotation it has based on the world’s view of it. Many people believe that when you have your head in the clouds, you’re oblivious to what’s going on around you, you’re nothing but a daydreamer living in an unrealistic, fantasy world who’s completely out of touch with reality. And as God’s people, we know that the spiritual realm is more real than the physical realm because what we can see, touch, smell, taste, hear, and experience on earth is temporal, but heaven is eternal. In saying that, what’s already done in heaven is manifested on earth through our prayers, faith, and obedience to God, which is why Jesus instructs us in Matthew 6:10 to pray these words: Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So, as believers, it’s our responsibility to bring heaven to earth and not get distracted by the things that we encounter in this world daily. And it’s not about being out of touch with reality, but it’s about being in touch with the Holy Spirit that lives inside of us—allowing Him to keep our minds focused on things above. No, we’re not perfect, and yes, we get caught up from time to time in the temporalities of this world when we’re not aligned with the Holy Spirit; however, when we ask our Father to help us get back on track, we can count on Him to do what we’ve asked Him to do. Now, can we take things a step further and clear the air?

We’re not saying that God is a cloud because we know that He is a Spirit as described in John 4:24. However, in Exodus 13:21-22, God guided the Israelites through the wilderness during the day in a pillar of a cloud, on Mount Sinai in Exodus 24:15-18, the glory of God rested on this mountain as a cloud, and in the scripture, Matthew 24:30 states that Jesus is coming on the clouds of heaven when He returns. So, what are we trying to say? Well, we’re glad you asked! As you can see, clouds symbolize God’s presence, guidance, glory, and His return. And although He’s not a cloud, He’s in their midst, which is why we should make it our business to keep our heads in the clouds because our Father dwells there to shield His powerful presence from humanity, and because He is omnipresent, He resides in us as well. The very thought of how wonderful, gracious, merciful, and sovereign our God is makes us speechless and takes our breath away. So, we are proud to say that we are daydreamers—dreaming of Jesus’ second coming while living life unrealistically compared to the world’s standards because of our faith in God, and smiling at the fascinating reality of keeping our head up to the sky and in the clouds helps us stay more aware of what matters in our lives; our relationship with God.
